AuxiliAry PCRMC creates a new website to honor organ donors T he PCRMC Auxiliary & Volunteer Services (AVS) department is committed to organ and tissue donation and honoring individuals who have given the gift of life. Organ donation became an AVS and Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries project in 2005, and "at that time we began looking at ways to recognize our donors from PCRMC," says Tina Pridgeon, AVS Director. "In 2007, we unveiled the Vine of Life, a memorial plaque located outside of the ICU that contains the names of all the organ and tissue donors from our hospital." Pridgeon says the Vine of Life filled up more quickly than expected-an accomplishment that proved bittersweet. "We wanted to continue to remember and honor the people who gave the gift of life and celebrate the lives they saved," she says. "After much consideration, rather The PCRMC Auxiliary & Volunteer Services department celebrated the dedication of the new website for organ donors last October. onLine Growing the Vine of Life Find Out More Online Want to learn more about PCRMC organ and tissue donors? We knew the capability to expand a website with new donor information was infinite, and we felt that there was no better way to share our donors' stories and include their photos." On Oct. 30, 2013, the AVS Board celebrated the dedication of the new website at pcrmc.com/OrganDonors. "We have included everyone to date that has given the gift of life at PCRMC, including the original donors listed on the Vine of Life," says Pridgeon. To date, many people have received lifesaving organ and tissue transplants from the generous donors from PCRMC. Cindy Butler, ICU Director, says, "Since 2007, when organ and tissue donation became a priority for PCRMC, over 120 individuals have given the gift of life." Part of the success of the program is education. "There are many myths associated with organ donation. Be aware and educate yourself on what it takes to become a donor, and most importantly, make your wishes known to your family," Butler says.
