Because of the improvements to military body armor and vehicles, Dr. Kriete says soldiers were surviving attacks that they would not have survived five years earlier. "The real credit for these soldiers' survival goes to the medical personnel (doctors, medics and helicopter pilots) that were deployed at that time. These medical professionals were the ones who helped the wounded out of harm's way, stabilized them and got them back to the U.S. for treatment within 24 hours of the injury," he says. "The patients we treated had almost every bone in their bodies broken, and I had the unique opportunity to train with three plastic surgeons. I gained extensive experience in all areas of facial surgeries, including bone grafts and facial reconstruction using titanium plates." Upon completing his residency in 2010, Dr. Kriete and his family were due for a transfer. As a result of his military experience, Dr. Kriete continues to have special interests in trauma and reconstructive surgeries, which he now performs at PCRMC. Over the next four years, Dr. Kriete worked at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital (GLWACH) at Fort Leonard Wood as a full-time ENT physician. "In addition to my duties at GLWACH, I had an opportunity to help Dr. Judyann Krenning cover the ENT patients served at the PCRMC Bond Clinic. Dr. Krenning and I established a good working relationship, and I loved the area, so when I finished my service, I began working for PCRMC full time in July 2014." Dr. Kriete is currently accepting new patients at the PCRMC Bond Clinic and at his practice in Waynesville. He is excited to work at the new Waynesville Medical Plaza and says, "I have been privileged to work with residents living in Fort Leonard Wood and the surrounding areas. I developed many rewarding patient relationships while practicing at GLWACH, and many of these patients have remained in my care even after I relocated my practice to Rolla.
