(215) 321-9662 www.mcneill-group.com FROM THE CED’S DESK The Official Publication of CAI New England CAI-NE and Five Ps he pages of Condo Media often espouse a philosophy of five Ps for community associations — “Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.” While those community associations that heed these words can be well served by them, the chapter and Condo Media also should practice what is preached. In the years I have served as chapter executive director, I have never seen any of the hundreds of volunteer leaders I have had the good fortune to work with live by the proverb “do as I say and not as I do.” Instead, they have embraced every opportunity to apply good management techniques, seek out sound information and develop volunteer skills to ensure that the chapter is, and continues to be, all that it can be. And the coming months will once again prove out the determination of volunteer leaders to ensure that the chapter continues to develop valuable benefits and services that address the ever-changing needs and developing concerns and challenges of the industry, as well as CAI members and Condo Media readers. With the appointment of the Strategic Planning Task Force (see story on page 17), members will carefully reconsider the chapter’s mission, directions and strategies implemented in the chapter’s strategic plan and approved by the board in 2005 to ensure they remain timely and vital for members today and going forward. Over the coming months, surveys, phone interviews, face-to-face meetings and a host of other member, as well as nonmember communications, will be orchestrated to seek out information to help the chapter shape goals and objectives into a new frontier of technological advancements, economic challenges and industry developments. While the task force focuses on this planning perspective, the CAI-NE board seeks four members to fill seats of expiring board members with terms beginning Jan. 1, 2010 (see page 16). Into the next decade, CAI-NE volunteer leaders will be challenged to continue to bring to members cutting-edge solutions that will include legislative advocacy as well as advanced education and management resources. The five Ps are alive and well at CAI-NE.
