Multiple Goals

Raising money was just one of several
goals for the Extravaganza. In addition to celebrating the sprinkler system
and promoting lawn care, Revis says,
"we also wanted people to get to know
their neighbors and to become more
involved in the community."
On that score as well, the event was a
huge success. It was organized entirely
by volunteers, some of whom had not
previously been involved in association
activities, and those new volunteers
"were among the people who worked
hardest," Revis says.
Some of those "newbies" are also serving on a newly created welcome committee, charged with welcoming new owners
to the community and encouraging them
to become involved as volunteers. The
committee has already held one event
(a reception for residents who moved in
within the past year), and it is already planning others, extending the momentum
created by the Extravaganza and providing more evidence that the event achieved
the goals described in the award nomination form: "It [rekindled] interest in the
community and re-energized Ridgefield's
community spirit," Revis says. CM
