CED's Desk WWW.CAINE.ORG A FUNNY THING HAPPENS A s the chapter executive director, I have the privilege of working with hundreds of members who have different backgrounds, reside throughout a broad geographic area, and serve in a variety of leadership and other volunteer roles. Chapter volunteers share a dedication to the community association industry they live and/or work in. They serve on committees giving their time and contributing their expertise to develop and deliver educational programs, networking events, and industry resources that will help community associations throughout New England. Volunteers should be congratulated and applauded for their success and commitment. However, what's curious is the one common fear I often encounter when speaking with members about volunteer opportunities: fear of the unknown. I don't know if I'll have the time ... I don't know what my role will be ... I don't know what to write about ... I don't know who's on the committee ... I don't know .... But a funny thing inevitably happens when these members assume a volunteer role and confront the unknown-they come back to those same roles or expanded volunteer roles year after year! Volunteer today and find out for yourself why you'll want to stay tomorrow and beyond. Sincerely, Claudette Carini Chapter Executive Director 4 CONDOMEDIAhttp://WWW.CAINE.ORG
