These doorbell cameras are becoming more and more popular and provide protection from theft of mail, deliveries, and general home security. However, the use of these cameras raises important questions concerning privacy rights which could not have 48 CONDOMEDIA June 2019 been contemplated years ago when various statutes concerning privacy rights were written. Condo associations need to fully understand and consider the privacy implications created by these doorbell cameras before installing them or allowing unit owners to install them. When considering a doorbell camera installation or allowing a unit owner to do the same, condo boards must consider where the cameras are and whether or not they are capable of capturing audio recordings as well. The answers to these questions will ultimately determine whether or not a doorbell camera is compliant with the law.
