Credentials, Education and Commitment
To help ensure the association is putting the community
in the hands of the most qualified professionals, Community
Association Managers International Certification Board (CAMICB) and Community Associations Institute (CAI) credentials,
including CMCA, AMS, PCAM and AAMC, demonstrate an
elevated commitment to professional education.
Accredited Association Management Company (AAMC)
The AAMC accreditation demonstrates a company's commitment to community associations. Among other requirements,
the AAMC must have a minimum of three years of management
experience, have a PCAM designee as the company's senior
manager and a staff of which 50% of managers who have been
at the company for at least two years hold a CAI professional
manager credential.
Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM)
The highest professional recognition available to community
association managers, PCAM designees must have at least five
years of experience, successfully complete all six Professional
Management Development Program (PMDP) courses, pass the
Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) exam
and a comprehensive case study exam.

Association Management
Specialist (AMS)
AMS designees must have at
least two years of association
management experience, successfully complete two Professional Management Development
Program (PMDP) courses and pass the Certified Manager of
Community Associations (CMCA) exam.
Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA)
The CMCA is the only international certification program
recognizing individuals who have demonstrated the fundamental knowledge required to manage community associations.
Designees must complete a prerequisite course, meet a five-year
experience requirement or hold an approved license/credential
and successfully pass the CMCA examination.
All credentialed managers must comply with CMCA's
Standards of Professional Conduct, CAI's Professional
Manager Code of Ethics and meet ongoing continuing
education requirements.

Associations and Condominiums
More than 25% of the U.S. population now lives in a community association-also known as a planned community,
homeowners association, condominium community or housing
cooperative-according to the 2019 National and State Statistical Review for Community Association Data, published by the
Foundation for Community Association Research.
73 million Americans currently reside in the nation's nearly
350,000 community associations, according to new statistics by
the Foundation.
Based on the data collected in 2018, Florida continues to lead
the nation with 48,250 associations, which are home to 9.5 million residents. Massachusetts ranks seventh with more than 1.6
million residing in 11,000 associations. New Hampshire is listed

with upwards of 3,000 associations, while Maine, Rhode Island
and Vermont report between 1,000 and 2,000 associations
associations.
Additional results show the value of homes in community
associations is nearly $6.28 trillion, and roughly $96 billion in
assessments is collected annually from homeowners to fund
essential maintenance.
