CED's Desk WWW.CAINE.ORG MAINTAINING COMMUNITY W hile the annual spring/summer maintenance issue brings focus to the importance of maintaining buildings and grounds, communities will not be well maintained, nor can they be truly successful, if they lack volunteer leaders who are informed about association issues and committed to serve in the best interest of the association and owners. Maintaining community goes beyond brick and mortar and grass and pavement. Identifying prospective community volunteers to serve on committees and boards, as well as providing them with a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, are important 'maintenance' considerations. CAI and the New England chapter can help communities understand why people volunteer to serve on association boards and committees; provide training for volunteer board and committee members; and offer a variety of resources to keep volunteer leaders informed and support their success. This past year has been unlike any other in so many ways, and more than ever before, recognizing the contributions of volunteer leaders is paramount. With April being National Volunteer Month, be sure to start planning how you will publicly recognize your community volunteers next month. The importance of volunteerism cannot be overstated!
