o Matter What's Needed, Dave Barrett Always Gets the Job Done
On June 10, members of the New England chapter of CAI
were able to gather at the Walpole, MA, Country Club for two
much-anticipated annual outdoor events: the golf tournament
and the cornhole tournament.
These were among the chapter's
first in-person events since the
long pandemic lockdown, and the
excitement was palpable. There was
just one problem: the chair of the
committee sponsoring the cornhole
tournament-the Emerging Leaders
Network (ELN)-was unable to
attend at the last minute.
What to do? Call a dedicated volunteer
who has given back tirelessly
to the organization for well over a
decade, of course. Call Dave Barrett.
It happens that Barrett serves on
the ELN. But that's not all. He is also
the clerk of CAINE's board of directors,
a long-time member of both the
Massachusetts and New Hampshire
Legislative Action Committees, a
Seminar & Conference Committee
member, a panel speaker at educational programs, and a
valuable source of information and mentoring, which he is
more than willing to share with industry professionals.
Barrett also has a day job, of course. He is president of
RCM Services, a provider of janitorial, maintenance, light
construction, and snow removal services, and sister company
Clifton Management, a property management firm, both
based in Allston, MA. It was getting into the profession of

ARM, CPM, CMCA, AMS, PCAM
to take advantage of CAI courses, so they can present information
to boards methodically and outline options for them
clearly, so they will make the right decisions. "
He has more than achieved his
educational goals, having earned the
Certified Manager of Community
Associations (CMCA), Association
Management Specialist (AMS), and
the Professional Community Association
Manager (PCAM) certifications.
He has also achieved Certified
Property Manager (CPM) and Accredited
Residential Manager (ARM)
certifications, industry accreditations
offered by the Institute of Real Estate
Management (IREM), another organization
for which Barrett donates
significant time and energy.
Over the years, for Barrett, volunteering
became more than a source
of learning and a chance to impact
legislation that affects the entire
industry. It became a way to connect
with fellow industry professionals.

the first place. " I was interested in the property manager education
program because I feel strongly that managers should
be educated, " he says. " I think it's so important for managers

it's maybe less work and more enjoyment to collaborate with
the individuals that you get to meet through the organization. "
For his efforts, Barrett was presented the CAINE Manager
of the Year award in 2010, and he has also been inducted into
the Blue Jacket Club of the New England Real Estate Journal
(NEREJ), a rare and prestigious honor created to recognize
individuals who have made significant contributions
to the real estate management industry.
Oh, and about that cornhole tournament:
It went beautifully, of course, with Barrett overseeing
everything from registration to the logistics.
" To me, he is the perfect volunteer, " says Paula
Solemina, director of sales and marketing for
PRO-Care, Inc., headquartered in Woburn, MA.
A fellow CAINE volunteer, she was introduced to
the chapter by Barrett about a decade ago. " He gives so much.
He's always there to help in any capacity, whether it's a role on
a committee or as a board member. Even if it's not in his role,
he's there to step up and help out. He's a leader. "
