WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE
ORGANIZATION UNDER YOUR LEADERSHIP?
I think it's important to have continuing
education available-certainly for the managers,
but also a support system for managers and
other staff to lean on and learn from because
sometimes we're kind of on an island. I think a
sense of community is really important for each
of the different levels of employees who work to
serve these associations that we manage.
HOW DOES THE CAI-NE BOARD WORK
TOGETHER TO MAKE CHANGES?
A board has to have a common goal. I think the
CAI-NE board has a great assortment of different
people with different industry backgrounds.
We have attorneys, property managers, and a
variety of other business partners-including
people who work in insurance and construction-
as well as homeowner representatives. Every one of
these people has different experiences, and they're
able to talk about things with each other. So, I think
the CAI-NE board is really able to look at things
from different perspectives-
and they're willing

WHY IS CAI IMPORTANT?
I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE A
COMMUNITY OF SUPPORT FOR WHATEVER
ISSUE YOU'RE GOING THROUGH. AND
THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN
THROUGH CAI EDUCATION PROGRAM.
IF YOU OBTAIN DESIGNATIONS, WHICH IS
GREAT, IT'S SOMETHING TO SHOW FOR ALL
THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE TO BETTER
YOURSELF. IT'S ALPHABET SOUP, BUT IT'S
ALSO A WAY TO THINK ABOUT THINGS
FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. I DO
THAT A LOT WITH THE COURSES I'VE TAKEN,
BUT ALSO FROM MY OWN BACKGROUND.
I STUDIED SOCIOLOGY IN COLLEGE-I USE
IT EVERY DAY, AND I WOULD NEVER HAVE
THOUGHT THAT I WOULD!
WHAT ARE THE MOST
IMPORTANT LESSONS
YOU'VE LEARNED IN
THIS INDUSTRY?
What I've learned-
and it's still a constant
struggle given my
Type A personality-
is that there's more
than one right way to do
things. If the outcome
is the same and no one
gets hurt and nothing
is lost along the way,
then I think that's one
of the big things that
I've learned. The other
thing that I've learned,
and that I'm getting
better at, is delegating.
For example, I can
read condo docs and
interpret them, but
I'm not an attorney-
I don't have a law
degree. So, you need
to know where your
limit is and then go to a
professional, whether
it's an accountant or an
attorney or an architect
or an engineer. If you
don't, that can be really
dangerous for yourself
and the clients you're
working for.
