afTerMarkeT sales by DIsTrIbuTIon Channel In 2008, aftermarket parts, accessories, tires and services for light vehicles were sold directly to consumers through 42 channels of distribution. Because twelve of these channels are particularly low volume, they have been condensed to an “All Other” category. These channels represent all of the establishments that sold automotive products and services to do-it-yourself consumers and those desiring professional service repair and maintenance (the do-it-forme side of the industry). The largest channels in 2008 were new vehicle dealers ($62.3 billion), general automotive repair shops ($33.4 billion) and automotive body, paint & interior repair & maintenance ($24.4 billion).
