In 2008, sales of replacement tires totaled $29.1 billion, an increase of 2.5 percent from 2007 ($28.4 billion). Sales of passenger and light truck tires totaled $23.7 billion, while medium and heavy truck tire sales totaled $5.4 billion. Replacement tire shipments from manufacturers declined 5.0 percent in 2008 to 244.5 million units, after experiencing growth in the previous year.
