MEMbER PRoFilE sTACy griggs, AAP Politically Speaking “When an industry presents itself with many faces on Capitol Hill in a unified way, it brings the desired attention,” said Stacy Griggs, AAP, Dayco Products, LLC. “It is very important that we have a strong showing at the 2009 Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.” Griggs is the politically-savvy chairman of the AAIA Government Affairs Committee, and has been heavily involved with AAIA since 1996. “Like with any involvement in an association, you’re always going to get out of it what you put into it,” Griggs said. “I like to participate, not just sit on the sidelines – if you’re going to be involved, be involved – I wouldn’t say I’m a member of a committee and not do anything.” An active participant in meetings and regular summit attendee, Griggs finds personal enjoyment in the association’s and industry’s government affairs issues. Through the committee, he gets insight into what’s going on in D.C., and appreciates educating his peers about things looming in legislation. If anything requires a “call to action,” Griggs initiates support within Dayco. “Recently, I wrote a few paragraphs explaining how the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ program is not good for us, and encouraged my colleagues to take the time to contact legislators in their state,” said Griggs. “It helps our company to have an employee on a committee that is ‘in the know’ – and my involvement enables me to elaborate and facilitate action at Dayco.” 10 | AFTERMARKET INSIDER | FEBRUARY • MARCH 2009 Griggs has been with Dayco since 1985, when he began in Kansas City, Mo. He holds a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communications from Northwest Missouri State University and a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan. If not in the aftermarket, Griggs would be an attorney, and he enjoys reading, working out, martial arts and spending time with his wife and daughter. In today’s aftermarket, Griggs believes that the economy in general is tough for everyone, and said, “Certainly with what the car companies are going through, it is impacting the supplier base throughout the supply chain. Also, there continues to be issues with intellectual property (IP) infringement – we are particularly protective of our IP.” In the future, Griggs hopes for the opportunity to work internationally, but for right now, he is focused on bringing these issues to the nation’s capital. These, along with Right to Repair and patent/trademark protection, are just some of the topics that industry professionals can discuss with their members of Congress during this year’s Aftermarket Legislative Summit, March 11-12 in Washington, D.C. “With the challenges we still face, I hope everyone will consider making the trip to Washington, D.C. this year for the summit,” said Griggs. “It’s a great opportunity to educate Congress on our business and to help them understand what they can do to support us.” Stac y G riGGS, a aP POsitiOn : Director of Sales Operations, Dayco Products, LLC Years in the aFterMarKet: WOrds tO liVe bY: 23 “Work hard and do the right thing.” PhOne : Fa X : 918-481-3924 918-481-2367 stacy.griggs@dayco.com e-Mail : https://tcms.aftermarket.org/solutionsite/Default.aspx?tabid=92&action=RegisterforMeeting&args=888 http://www.aftermarket.org/Committees/GovernmentAffairs.aspx https://tcms.aftermarket.org/solutionsite/Default.aspx?tabid=92&action=RegisterforMeeting&args=888
