Aftermarket Dedication: The Third Generation
Following in his family’s wellestablished footsteps, Scott Pletz is president and CEO of Marketing and Promotion, Inc., and is a thirdgeneration aftermarket professional.
“It was natural for me to continue my family’s legacy,” Pletz said.“My grandfather, George F. Pletz, was with Maremont Muffler & Shocks in the 1960s and my father, Walter C. Pletz, was also a Maremont man doing service.” When Walter left Maremont, he went to work for a small rep agency in Dallas, Texas, and in 1968, after one year with the agency, Walter bought the company, and hired George to be his vice president. Together they started building the agency across four states and changed the name to Marketing and Promotion, Inc. Scott Pletz started out at Kissinger Auto Parts in Fort Worth, Texas in 1980, and moved to Thompson Auto Parts in Arlington, Texas in 1982. He then worked as Marketing and Promotion, Inc.’s first service person and developed its store service division, Team Auto Facts. Pletz describes his duties as, “Not only managing the business and handle accounts, but to train and lead by example.”
Currently serving on the AAIA Board of Directors and recently elected to its Executive Committee, Pletz has been involved in the advancement of the aftermarket through AAIA for many years. “What time I can manage away from Marketing and Promotion, Inc. is dedicated only to AAIA and our great industry,” said Pletz. “I was honored by ASIA in 1995-96 to be chosen as Young Executive of the Year, an honor of which I am very proud. When APAA/ASIA merged to form AAIA, I was involved in the merger through the Manufacturers’ Rep Council. I was also involved in the merger of APAA’s Next Generation and ASIA’s Young Executive Forum to form the Leadership Development Network.” If he weren’t known for his success in the aftermarket industry, Pletz might have been a famous musician or actor. In his free time, he still finds time for music, playing the guitar, harmonica and piano. He also enjoys hunting, fishing, working out and riding custom motorcycles.
