MEMbER PRoFiLE TimoThy lee Long-Time Leader on Board Timothy Lee was elected chairman of the AAIA Board of Directors for 2012-2013 at its Spring Leadership Days in May in Scottsdale, Ariz. Lee refers to AAIA’s ability to provide a unified voice for political and legal issues as a reward for being a part of the association. “But equally important to political action is the value of networking. From import/export expertise to rep firm communications to vendor partnership relationships to retail expertise and even heavy duty issues, it is all found under the umbrella of AAIA in an environment that is professional but casual enough for all participants to reap intelligence,” said Lee. “Even the ‘Be Car Care Aware’ campaign has grown to new complexity and maturity under the tutelage of AAIA. The industry is a better place because of the association.” Outside of AAIA, Lee participates on the board of the University of the Aftermarket Foundation as well as numerous local charitable organizations. He strongly supports the Right to Repair Act citing the withholding of technical information from service providers as the biggest issue facing the aftermarket. In his spare time he enjoys golfing, traveling with his wife of 41 years Pam, and spending time with his several grandchildren. In the future, he looks forward to turning the company over to his son and Grumish and fulfilling his obligations to the association. Currently chairman and CEO, Lang Distributing, Inc., Lee got his start in the industry in 1971 working for United Delco after graduating from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s in English education and a second major in history. “I sold Delco products and then, AC/ Delco products until resigning to work for Lang Distributing, Inc.,” said Lee. In 1985, he bought the company. “I am the chairman of a small distribution company which services independent jobbers as well as 22 companyowned stores,” Lee said. “The baton has been passed to my son Adam to run the show and I have relied on the expertise of Scott Grumish to make the stores run smoothly and profitably. I have seen to it that I hire good talent so that I might have the time to participate in industry affairs as well as to try to lower my golf handicap to nine. I have been successful at the prior and woefully unsuccessful at the latter.” Lee has been a loyal AWDA member since before its merger with AAIA serving as its chairman and treasurer. He has had extensive involvement at AAIA serving as its treasurer and on the executive committee and audit and investment committee. TimoThy Le e POsItIOn : Chairman and CEO, Lang Distributing, Inc.
