Support of the S upreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas had the distinct honor and pleasure to represent AHEPA at several events in New York City and Washington, DC that were held in honor of the visit to the United States by His All Holiness Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople, New Rome, and Ecumenical Patriarch of the Orthodox Christian Church. Although each and every event was truly amazing and enlightening, the AHEPA family was obviously deeply touched by His All Holiness’ historic visitation to AHEPA International Headquarters on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, which was followed by a dinner hosted by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the U.S Department of State later that day. “I would like to sincerely thank the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, under the leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, and the AHEPA family, for helping to enical Patriarch make our participation possible,” said Supreme President Karacostas. “We commend the message of peace, tolerance, and care for the environment that His All Holiness has brought to the United States.” Archbishop Demetrios accompanied the Ecumenical Patriarch to AHEPA Headquarters. It was also His Eminence’s first visit to AHEPA’s offices. “We are extremely honored and deeply grateful that His All Holiness agreed to make this historic visitation to our international headquarters, and that His All Holiness was joined by our spiritual leader in the United States, Archbishop Demetrios,” said Karacostas. “The AHEPA family cherishes its long-standing relationship with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and we look forward to continuing our strong support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Archdiocese.
