ahePa family chaPter news District 1 AHEPA Mother Lodge Chapter 1, Atlanta—Nicole Constantina Paxton is the recipient of the Johnny N. Economy Scholarship. Paxton is a secondyear Master’s student as a Eugene L. Cox Fellow in the Department of Art History at the University of Notre Dame, where she is concentrating on Byzantine Art. She received her B.A. in Art History and Italian Studies from Wellesley College in 2006. Before beginning her Master’s work, Paxton traveled for one year, from January 2007 to January 2008, on the Knafel Traveling Fellowship. For her fellowship project, entitled “Contemporary Eastern Orthodox Iconography in Monastic Workshops,” Paxton visited Israel, Egypt, Russia, Serbia, Cyprus, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. During her fellowship year, Paxton represented the Metropolitanate of Atlanta at the International Orthodox Youth Conference in Istanbul, which gave young adults a forum to discuss issues surrounding the history and contemporary reality of the Orthodox Church. Paxton’s research interests in Byzantine art and history include medieval Magna Graecia and ItaloGreek painting in sixteenth century Venice. DISTRICT 2 CHAPTER 356 DISTRICT 2 CHAPTER 356 DISTRICT 1 CHAPTER 1 District 2 AHEPA Pinellas Chapter 356, Clearwater, Fla.—The chapter honored Past Supreme Vice President Gus Stefanadis for his decades of dedication and service to the Order and to the chapter with a luncheon held Oct. 10, 2009. Presentations were made by U.S. Rep. Gus M. Bilirakis (R-FL), Supreme Vice President Dr. John Grossomanides, Jr., Supreme Secretary Anthony Kouzounis, Past Supreme President and Chairman of the Board Franklin Manios and Past Supreme President James Scofield. All congratulated Brother Stefanadis for being an exceptional and loyal Ahepan, a true Hellene, and a great family man. Brother Michael Boutzoukas served as Master of Ceremonies for the event, which was chaired by Brother Steve Tsagaris. Brother James Mavres catered the luncheon. The recepients for the 2009-2010 academic year include: Eleni Alifieris (University of South Carolina), John C. Alifieris (Clemson University), Mary J. Collins (Clemson University), Anna Dimitri (Clemson University), Natalie S. Ferrara (Medical University of South Carolina), Nicholas V. Kliossis (Clemson University), and Victoria M. Tsurutis (Medical University of South Carolina). Chapter 4 has awarded in excess of $100,000 in scholarships to deserving students since the inception of the scholarship program in 1990. The present members of the Board of Directors of the chapter’s scholarship foundation consists of George J. Morris, chairman; Harry G.S. Spell, vice chairman; Victor Kliossis, treasurer; and Dr. Peter C.
