Solberg explores whether a traditional
60/40 portfolio is still a sensible approach. Solberg
interviewed experts at some of the largest
asset managers. These leaders " all had different
nuances to the 60/40 approach, but there was
definite overlap, " she says. After earning a B.A. in
economics and working as a designer, Solberg
joined the Morningstar Development Program in
2020. She took on projects with Morningstar's
equity and manager research teams before
landing her current role covering market news
in words and graphs for Morningstar.com.

Eric Jacobson lends nearly three decades of
perspective to the fixed-income market's 2022
comeuppance in " Is It Time to Pick Up
the Pieces? " (Page 32). Jacobson, a director of
manager research at Morningstar Research
Services LLC, reminds investors to beware
complacence. " Make sure you didn't pick a fund
that did crazy well in a rally but that had
risks you weren't aware of-especially if it's
expensive, because the only way to clear a high
expense hurdle is with tricks and gimmicks, "
Jacobson says. " This warning is even more
important for investors in 'safe' short-term funds
because that is an area where managers take
hidden risks because it is harder to compete there. "
Franziska Barczyk
Illustrator Franziska Barczyk is known for her
vibrant mix of collage and digital imagemaking
that incorporates pattern, bold color, and geometric
shapes. For this issue's Spotlight, Barczyk
says she used a " blur effect " and " chaotic lines "
to symbolize the damage to and uncertainty
of the fixed-income markets. " The figure with the
binoculars shows a closer and analytical look
is needed, " she adds. Upon reflection, a pattern
comes into focus, creating a clearer perspective for
investors. Barczyk is based in Toronto and
counts Apple, Google, The New York Times, and
The New Yorker among her clients.
