learn how to win in this country. The more
individuals like myself and Ross are in people's
minds in a relatable, tangible, easy, and digestible
way, the more it starts to shift. While those
stats say a lot of people have not invested, now
people are wanting to invest, so much that
they'll go buy our programs.
I run the WealthBuilders Community app,
which is the technology platform Empify uses
to get our education out to adults all
around the world, and we literally invested over
$2.5 million last year. This is their money,
the accounts they opened. We invested over
$150,000 the day Amazon's stock split.
It's not that we don't have the money, because
Black people have mastered the art of spending
money. We have the money. It's just that
we have to recognize that we can take this money
and instead of just giving it to Amazon, buy
Amazon stock, too.
Meeting People Where
They Are
Peterson: What is your advice for financial-tech
companies like Morningstar that are seeking
to empower investor success and educate people?
Fox: Use social media. You can't create
financial education and put it on a website hoping
that your audience comes and sees it. You
got to go where the people are. You have to align
and connect, and you have to create relatable
content that educates.
I know who you guys are; I worked on Wall Street.
But how does the everyday person utilize the
resources Morningstar creates? Our audience is
on social media. Our audience likes to spend
money. Our audience likes certain types of music.
While you cannot partner with everybody, find
those initiatives that you can support. It sounds
like the complete opposite of finance, but all
our community wants is to be loved and to be seen.
What makes someone want to go to you versus
another company is what you make them feel like.
It's not about giving the world what you
want them to have. It's about asking the world
what they're yearning for.
Mac: I'm going to take the layup, because my
production company works with fintech companies
and financial firms to find a better way to
communicate to our audience. You've got to meet
your consumer where they're at, and that is on
