ventures into artificial intelligence. In " Advisors
Need to Embrace AI-but Carefully " (Page 23),
Rowling explores how financial advisors can use
this emerging technology. " AI isn't changing
much yet, especially in our industry, because there
isn't anything designed specifically for advisors
that's also being widely used, " Rowling says.
And there's good reason to approach with caution,
as regulation governing advisor use is still in
the works. (For Morningstar's take, see " Advisors
Await SEC Rule for AI, " Page 31.)
That said, advisors can't afford to ignore AI,
and it isn't too soon to dip your toes in the water,
even if just for fun. " When you have a need
in daily life, instead of going to Google, go to an AI
chatbot, " Rowling suggests. She favors Google
Gemini and has used it for things like planning an
upcoming family vacation to New Orleans
and searching for a gift for " a friend turning 50
who likes baseball and going to the beach. "
Rowling, a CPA/personal financial specialist with
30 years of experience, is a columnist on
Morningstar.com and a regular contributor to
the magazine's Advisor Insights column.

make a mistake, Page 11.) She founded Total
Rebalance Expert, an automated portfolio
rebalancing tool for financial advisors, in 2008,
after she couldn't find a comparable product
for her former independent advisory firm, Rowling
& Associates. Morningstar acquired Total
Rebalance Expert in 2015.
Ewelina Karpowiak
Ewelina Karpowiak is the founder of Klawe
Rzeczy, a design studio based in Lodz, Poland, that
specializes in editorial illustrations and digital
collages. For this issue's cover, Karpowiak says,
" I tried to show in a literal but slightly exaggerated
way the complexity and multilayered nature of
the issues that AI can solve. The collage technique
was perfect for this project. " Karpowiak's
work has been published by Forbes, The Economist,
and Harvard Business Review, among others.
She also creates posters, book covers, and graphic
designs for new media and advertisements.
