The Anaheim Convention Center once again played host to the Winter NAMM Show on January 19–22, packed to the rafters with musical instruments, educational materials, and lots and lots of pro audio gear. The cautious optimism of recent years continues, and we saw a lot of new faces at NAMM this year, as well as the return of companies that had skipped the show for one or more years. We can’t fit everything in this report, and apologize to anyone we’ve missed. Check out our January 2012 coverage of the AES Convention, which featured the latest new products by many companies that showed them again at NAMM. And check our Facebook page for lots of photos from the show as well.—MM ReWire hosting, punch-in/out recording and loop recording with multiple takes, VST support with unlimited outputs, submixing and output buses, loop library improvements, interface and notation improvements, new instruments, effects and loops, and much more. AEA (ribbonmics.com) showed the RPQ500 500 Series ribbon mic preamp module first shown at AES, and hosted Colin Broad’s CB Electronics (colin broad.com), whose MA-104 remote controlled 4-channel mic preamp (price TBA) is the first of a new line of products including A/D and D/A converters, MADI interfaces, and digital monitoring solutions. Akai (akaipro.com), Alesis (alesis.com), and Alto (altoproaudio.com) were the “Three As” at the Numark booth. New Akai pro audio products included the MAX49 ($499 street), an advanced keyboard controller with 12 backlit MPCstyle pads, 8 touch-sensitive control strips with LEDs rather than physical faders, and connections for USB, MIDI, and even analog CV and Gate; the MPC Renaissance and MPC Studio (prices TBA), two powerful MPC control surfaces 2box (2box.se, dist. by Studio Sound International, studiosoundintl.com) was a new company at NAMM, offering the Drumit Five electronic drum kit ($3999.95, $2899.99 street), a powerful new incarnation of the famed ddrum electronic kit, which offers exceptional playability and feel combined with high-end sounds and the ability to load one’s own samples via a software librarian. Acoustica (acoustica.com) premiered Mixcraft 6 ($85.95) and Mixcraft Pro Studio 6 ($199.99), the newest versions of its Windows XP/Vista/7 DAW. New features include a redesigned interface,
