We also had the worst kept secret of a video appearance from aviation enthusiast John Travolta who added some “Saturday Night Fever” to the event. With the help of an excellent professional auctioneer and some unique auction items (THANK YOU, PACMIN, ATLANTIC MODELS, AIRBUS, BOEING, HERB KELLEHER, JOHN TRAVOLTA, JOE SUTTER & AUTOMATIC, LLC) we were able to raise $86,000 via the live auction and Club ISTAT, bringing the current Thanks and congratulations to 2008 total funds raised to $1,041,335. This year we were fortunate to have six of our 2007 scholarship recipients present, and I trust that many of you had the opportunity to meet these students and hear what a fundamental difference your dollars are making to their lives and how their exposure to ISTAT is cementing their commitment to the aviation industry. In closing, I would like to ask you all once again to please support our Internship Program. The Internship Committee has done an excellent job in identifying over 70 suitable intern candidates who will be available to ISTAT members this summer. While we unfortunately do not believe it will be possible to place all of these candidates, we would encourage you all to look very closely at your own requirements for and ability to accommodate an intern (or two) this year. We believe it is essential that we support this program as it is proving a signiﬁcant opportunity to attract potential industry leaders into the commercial, ﬁnance and technical areas of our industry. The opportunities for business, ﬁnance and other non-aviation-focused majors to experience the truly unique industry, which we all enjoy, are few and internship is high on our list for broadening the scope of the ISTAT Foundation’s ability to attract key resources into the sector. There is another Joe Sutter or future ISTAT Award recipient out there, and we’d like to make sure that we snag him or her early. Finally, I am pleased to report that we have been successful in placing the ﬁrst participant in the Warriors to Work program, and we hope this is the ﬁrst of many, so keep this program in the forefront of your minds, please. 26 The ofﬁcial publication of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading
