ISTAT foundation With summer coming to a close and the memories of Farnborough and an excellently attended ISTAT reception fading away, it’s time to get down to work again. The Foundation activities this quarter will focus on obtaining submissions from grant candidates, as well as preparing for the 2009 scholarship season. These activities are the backbone of the Foundation's existence, and the various committees are experienced in effectively and efﬁciently extending the reach of the Foundation within schools and aviation institutions worldwide. However, we are at a point where the Foundation Trustees have determined that a strategic review of the Foundation’s activities and stafﬁng is appropriate. To this end, the trustees will be gathering in Chicago in the second half of September for a two day retreat during which a wide-ranging review of these issues will be undertaken. The "success" of the Foundation (due to the generosity of the ISTAT membership) puts us in the enviable position of having sufﬁcient funds available to not only grow the Foundation’s existing activities but also to consider developing unique and "proprietary" programs that will enable the Foundation to further its fundamental objectives of supporting those who wish to enter our aviation industry, but require ﬁnancial aid to do so, provide programs to "showcase" our industry to attract talent that may otherwise be "lost" to other industries and to channel the vast array of member resources towards deserving causes, including humanitarian relief. I hope in the next issue of Jetrader to be able to report back to you with a detailed report of the outcome of these strategic planning sessions. In the meantime should any of you have any suggestions or speciﬁc proposals that you would like your Foundation to be considering please do not hesitate to call or write to me or any of the trustees, and we will be pleased to consider them.
