Jetrader is a bi-monthly publication of the International Society of Transport Aircraft Trading (ISTAT). ISTAT was founded in 1983 to act as a forum and to promote improved communications among those involved in aviation and supporting industries, who operate, manufacture, maintain, sell, purchase, finance, lease, appraise, insure or otherwise engage in activities related to transport category aircraft. Dear ISTAT fellow members, Still recovering from jetlag from our very successful ISTAT Europe 2011 conference as I write this, I’m reminded of the great global steps ISTAT has taken this year to make us more relevant and valuable to our ever-growing membership. The Barcelona event was outstanding in every regard. We ended up with 770 registrants, nearly 200 more than our successful Munich event of last year. From what I heard, everyone loved Barcelona—the city, its weather and cultural attractions, and, to the credit of the ISTAT team, our two days of conference meetings. We had some really interesting topics on the agenda, helped along by current concerns over Europe’s debt situation. It found us at the center of some signiﬁcant debate over where the industry is heading in 2012 and beyond and garnered us attention from several key industry media on hand. Outside the sessions a lot of folks were conducting business, a real plus that goes with ISTAT events, and we offered some great networking opportunities— from cocktail parties to the spectacular gala dinner overlooking the city and featuring amazing ﬂ amenco dancing. Our goal was to raise the quality of this year’s conference, and it looks like we succeeded. I think we may have even topped Monte Carlo as the “gold standard” for our European events. Special thanks go to our event committee of Mark Pearman-Wright, Doug Runte, David Swan, Sigthor Einarsson, Marc Allinson and Mike Skinner, as well as our support team of Cynthia Cortis, Katie Walsh and Ron Pietrzak. Barcelona joins with our earlier events—at Paris, our ﬁrst Beijing conference, and our annual meeting in Scottsdale—to round out a successful series of world events aimed at demonstrating our member value. And we’re not done yet, with our decision to hold year-end receptions in New York, London and Singapore. Stand by to hear even more in the new year about how we plan to continue our global presence, including the hope of having our ﬁrst ISTAT member chalet at Farnborough, to complement our conference events in Rome, Singapore and Scottsdale. This was a spectacular year for the society and one that gave me, as president, great pleasure from the association with our dedicated and talented team of organization volunteers. Thanks for your support, and best wishes to you, family and friends for a prosperous 2012.
