Chapter Highlights
Chicago

On April 25th, chapter members teamed up with IIDA
and Rebuilding Together aﬃliates to help Lela Grimble
of Maywood, Illinois update her home. The group
rehabilitates community centers, builds playgrounds, and
partners with organizations focused on energy eﬃciency,
sustainable community gardens, education, and volunteer
engagement. The chapter looks forward to making this an
annual event.
On May 27th, 150 local members and guests gathered

for a presentation and tour of the new Loews Chicago,
designed by locally based Simeone Deary Design Group
with purchasing by Benjamin West's Chicago oﬃce. Guests
toured meeting rooms, public areas, the rooftop bar, and
guestrooms. Thank you to the sponsors: Alger-Triton,

2014 scholarship winner Eileen Driscoll represented the
chapter at NEWH's National Board meeting in Dallas. This
year, the chapter awarded seven scholarships that amounted to $35,000. The 2015 winners
included recipients with degrees in culinary arts, hospitality management, and interior design.

The chapter awarded its ﬁrst scholarship bursary on June 25th to architecture student
Thomas Hobbs from Ravensbourne, London.
Earlier in the year, students were given a detailed brief to follow in producing their
project proposals. They were instructed to design a hotel and oﬃce space, along with
other dedicated and mixed-use areas in a new development next to the Tate Modern
on the south bank of the River Thames in London. The proposals by seven students,
all of whom were in their second year of studies in architecture and design, were
creative, ambitious, and varied in their approaches. A panel of ﬁve judges reviewed the 1
students' work.
Hobbs presented strong solutions and also addressed operational aspects of the
plan. He will be presented the scholarship award at the UK chapter's annual fundraiser at the Ham
Yard on September 16th.
