One-on-One with
Jessica Wasmer

How did you become involved in NEWH?
I was fortunate to grow up in the hospitality industry, and over
the years I was able to see how NEWH supports every member:
scholarships for students, exchange of information regarding
what is happening in the industry, and continued education
through educational events. I knew NEWH was an organization
I wanted to be involved with.
What has NEWH done for you, both personally and professionally?
I was able to get my fi rst job in the industry by using the
NEWH career network. Since then I have made some amazing
connections throughout the country, allowing me to grow both
personally and professionally and eventually helping me move
to my new position with Fabric Innovations.
In your role as the Orange County regional group's steering chair,
what do you have planned for 2016?
We are very excited for 2016 here in Orange County. In addition
to our networking events, we are preparing for our fourth
annual NEWH Fashion Challenge at BDwest. Th is year we have
15 amazing teams and have been working with BDwest and
the LA Founding Chapter to make it the most successful to
date. All of the garments are auctioned off to raise money for
scholarships.
What were some of the highlights of 2015?
Our Fashion Challenge event was wildly successful and raised
funds used to award three scholarships in 2015.
Tell us what's new at Fabric Innovations.
We have a ton of new products and launches at Fabric
Innovations at the moment. It's been a great time to come on

board. One of the biggest changes recently has been the addition
of our in-line product division. We launched five new books
at the end of 2015, including our fi rst upholstery collection,
Bespoke Menswear, which has been well-received. We're
following that up with new sheers, blackouts, faux leathers, more
design-forward solids, box spring covers, and some beautiful
new digitally printed patterns. Our new website also recently
launched so designers now have the ability to see any of our inline product and order samples directly online.
What is your business outlook for the next year or two?
I plan to grow business in my territory exponentially in the next
two years. With all of the exciting new products we are offering,
I know we will have something to offer any project.
Latest travel highlight or plan?
I am getting married this year and am looking forward to our
honeymoon in Jamaica.
Trend you are paying attention to in the industry?
I like the incorporation of warm metals like copper. The tone on
tone of overly neutral spaces has become tiresome. It's time to
bring in some color.
When you aren't working or at an NEWH event, where can we
find you?
I love to be outdoors either camping or on our boat on the river. ❙❘❚
