This February, the hospitality
community came together during
the NEWH Leadership Conference
in Denver to address the needs of
the industry, its challenges, and to
celebrate the impact we collectively have on individual lives.
During the event, delegates from the Memphis/Mid-South
region united in a desire to build that sense of community in
their local area. We are excited to announce that a steering
committee has been formed and events are being planned
to join all regional hospitality businesses together. The goal
is to work together to make the local industry stronger and
to make the Memphis/Mid-South a better place.
A calendar of events is being formed and the Memphis/
Mid-South Facebook Page will be unveiled soon. Stay tuned
to NEWH as the steering committee works hard to create
networking and educational opportunities for the region.
Steering committee members include Cody Liles, Susan
Herring, Bill Cotter, Greg Marx, Ron Smith, Traci Smith, Jana
Johnson, Courtney Crosby, and Sarah Edwards.
Memphis/Mid-South Region

Remembering Dixie
Nordstrom
Dixie Nordstrom passed away on May 25. She
created a 50-plus year career in hospitality
design as an interior designer, starting with
the Albert Parvin Co. in Los Angeles, where
she worked on projects in Las Vegas, Chicago, and San Francisco.
At Innkeepers Supply in Hollywood, she helped design Holiday
Inn properties nationwide. In her own business, DNN Design, she
worked almost exclusively on Hyatt properties and other notable
installations.  
Nordstrom was honored by the Los Angeles Founding Chapter of
NEWH with the prestigious Woman of Excellence award in 1999. She
served the organization in several capacities, including vice president
of scholarship and education for five years, executive vice president
for three years, and chair of programming for two years. Her most
famous contributions to NEWH were the memorable BroadwayHollywood Gala Shows, which she produced.
Nordstrom came out of retirement in 1995 to work with the Griffin
Group at Merv Griffin's Beverly Hilton Hotel. She participated in the
design of various Griffin-owned properties. As she often said, "It was
like a dream."
