spread to structural members of the
building.
Crews extinguished the fire and
ensured that all hotspots were completely
extinguished, remaining at the
scene until the local power company
arrived to secure the building.
No injuries were reported. The cause
of the fire was an unspecified electrical
failure.
The fire caused an estimated $30,000
in damage, but a fire department press
release indicated that firefighters saved
an estimated $1.1 million in property
damage through their efforts.

Electrical problem suspected in fire
that kills woman, pet dog
A fire in a residence that claimed the life
of a female occupant and her dog may
have resulted from overloaded electrical
outlets.
Firefighters were called to the scene
just before 7:45 a.m. after a neighbor
called to report smoke coming from
the single-family home. Arriving crews
reported visible smoke from the structure's
windows, eaves, and flue.
Crews initiated an aggressive interior
attack on the fire and a primary search
for occupants. Firefighters found the
female victim inside the home and
moved her outside, performing CPR at
the scene before transporting her to
the hospital. She was pronounced dead
at the hospital from her injuries. The
woman's pet dog was also found dead
inside the home.
According to a press release issued by
the state fire marshal's office, authorities
reported that the cause of the fire was
undetermined but indicated that an
electrical event at the residence may
have played a role in the blaze.
In the release, the public was
reminded not to overload electrical
outlets or to use power strips or extension
cords for appliances such as air
conditioners.
Firefighters from several nearby
departments responded to the fire, as
well as local police. The house was a
wood-frame structure.
No information was available on the
extent of damage.

Motorcycle electrical fire blamed for
townhouse fire
Firefighters rescued two occupants
from a house fire that resulted from a
problem with the electrical system of a
motorcycle.
According to a fire department press
release, crews were dispatched to the
scene by a report of a townhouse fire
at 12:56 a.m. Arriving crews found
fire showing from the back of a threestory,
middle-unit townhouse, with two

NFPA 13 requires the addition of an air vent on each wet pipe fire sprinkler system that utilizes
metallic pipe to help mitigate internal pipe corrosion. PURGEnVENT valves come in a variety
of styles. The 7910MAV is a manual air vent that has the smallest footprint on the market. The
M7900AAV features an 7900V automatic air vent that releases excess air while the system
is in operation. It also includes an isolation valve and purge valve. The purge valve helps
air exit the system faster when filling, and it can be used as a vacuum
break when draining the system. The vacuum break helps the system
drain faster and protects gaskets from being dislodged on other
system components when draining. The M7930ECA includes a pipe
cap for easy installation, and the M7950ILV features an air separation
chamber that installs into the main branch line for applications with
difficult to reach system high-points.
