A
s many of you know, I have
been involved with NFPA my
entire career. I have been a
technical committee member
and a member and chair of the
Standards Council, and for the past 10 years
I've had the privilege of being NFPA's president
and CEO. One of the things I'm most proud of
about NFPA is our ability to serve all of you
who rely on us for the best and most comprehensive
information and knowledge related
to fire, life, and electrical safety to do your
jobs. This is why I was so excited to recently
announce the launch of our new, separate, fully
owned NFPA Global Solutions and a new business
within it called NFPA Global Advisors.
We have been doing a lot of communication
around this (see " Bold Step " on page 10) and
in these early stages it is important to repeat
what NFPA Global Solutions and its companies
are. They will advance safety with new offerings
beyond the traditional ones provided by NFPA,
and they will do this through acquisitions as well
as the organic creation of new businesses. NFPA
Global Solutions and the businesses within it will
focus on helping customers demonstrate compliance
to standards and regulations; delivering
digital products to help customers and stakeholders
in their jobs; and, through NFPA Global
Advisors, providing advisory services to governments
and companies on how to best implement
the NFPA Fire & Life Safety Ecosystem™
.
It is also important to communicate what they
are not. NFPA Global Advisors, for example, is not
a fire protection engineering firm. In fact, their

I've been asked whether the creation of these
new businesses represents a conflict of interest
for NFPA. There is no conflict of interest
between NFPA Global Solutions and NFPA, and

our standards development remains under the
nonprofit 501(c)(3) operation of NFPA. Neither
NFPA staff nor NFPA Global Solutions staff can
be participants in the NFPA standards process.
There are many examples of other standards
development organizations that have created
similar structures that allow them to expand
offerings into these same areas.
For more than a century, NFPA has been
the leader in tackling fire problems. This is
the next step in our continued growth. Today's
safety challenges demand more approaches,
and I am excited about what we can deliver
and what else we can bring you.
