have made many friends living with metastatic cancer
who have inspired this publication, which focuses on
living with metastatic cancer, including programs
and supportive care that serve the metastatic community.
Everyone who touches our programs has been
impacted by cancer in some way, and their authenticity,
strength, and fearlessness has inspired me. When you think
of metastatic cancer, people don't often think of the words
" health " and " wellness, " but integrating health and wellness
as a lifestyle brings so many benefits to people living
with metastatic cancer and can improve their overall quality of life. This MY LIFE Matters Magazine issue dedicated
to " Health and Wellness " is grounded in gratitude, and I hope it inspires all readers to " Let Love Be Your
Frequency. "
My best friend Cat was my soul sister and inspired me to expand my wellness journey into mindfulness,
meditation, and mantras. Catherine, " Cat " Odderstol, the inspiration for Tigerlily's Pure Cat Program,
inspired me to become a yogi and taught me so much about breathwork, energy, and soul work. After Cat's
passing, I found that I could keep her close to me by integrating her lessons into my life. I started being more
intentional in honoring my body through exercise, diet, meditation, prayer, therapy, and lifestyle choices.
Eating healthy has always been a part of my life, but after cancer, I really started researching what I put
into my body: nutrient-dense raw, whole food, smoothies, and juicing have become staples, and my go-to
way to give myself a nutrition boost. I now know that the same attention we put into what goes into our
body should also be applied to what goes onto our body.
It was shocking to learn the alarming statistics around Black beauty products and the links to cancer. I
joined the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC's) Non-Toxic Black Beauty Project Advisory Committee to
address the over-exposure Black women experience to unsafe ingredients in both beauty and personal care
products. For my Black and Brown sisters, this issue is especially urgent because we face the highest rate of
breast cancer mortality in the United States.
I have become mindful of how each body part works, including my skin (it's our biggest organ), and how
through food, diet, lifestyle, and knowledge I can support the ecosystem living inside me that houses my
spirit. Becoming aware of my body and its needs from a health and wellness perspective has been not only
empowering, but life changing, and I wish the same for you.
We would like to thank Elephants and Tea for partnering with us on this spring edition of My LIFE Matters
and being a part of that change.
