A Message from Board Chair,
Mark Murray
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as chair of the NHPCO board of directors—it is an honor to work on your behalf. I look back on my previous years of board and committee service as invaluable preparation for the tasks that lie ahead. Lessons I have learned and shared with colleagues throughout our field will serve me well in this important role. As I begin my first term as chair, let me take this opportunity to reflect on the strength that is found in being a unified community. Hospice and palliative care providers share a common mission to provide the highest quality care to patients and families. Our strong commitment to that mission transcends all differences in how we are structured, the size of our organizations, the programs we offer, and where we provide care. NHPCO’s commitment to preserving the unity of the hospice and palliative care community—as proclaimed by our board on numerous occasions—is one that I share. I want to ensure that this call for unity is not lost amid the many challenges we may be facing in the months and years ahead. I have been a program CEO for 13 years and consider it a privilege to have spent the last 21 years working at an NHPCO member hospice. I have dedicated my professional life to the provision of hospice and palliative care for the dying, their families and the greater community. This fuels my passion—a passion I know we share. The benefits of our work together will outlast any individual accomplishments or career accolades that we could ever achieve alone. I look forward to our collective efforts and sincerely thank you for choosing to be a member of the oldest and largest hospice and palliative care organization in the world. This is your NHPCO.
