NHPCO 2010-12 Strategic Plan Strategic Area—Regulatory/Compliance Goal: Enhance leadership as the authority on regulatory and compliance issues that affect end-of-life care providers by providing timely analysis and communiqués to the field; advocate for important and necessary changes. Objectives 1. Expand regulatory and compliance trending and analysis of issues that impact the end of life and advocate as appropriate 2. Develop a comprehensive end-of-life care regulatory resource center 3. Collaborate with other national organizations to promote and advocate for regulatory and compliance best practices for end-of-life care Key Initiatives a. Develop mechanisms to monitor the range of regulatory issues impacting care across the end-of-life care continuum a. Analyze regulatory issues impacting access to end-of-life care b. Advocate for regulations that improve timely access to end-of-life care for eligible patients a. Strategically partner with national organizations to enhance timely access to quality end-of-life care Current Activities to Support This Strategic Area • Ongoing support to members through phone and email with answers to regulatory and compliance questions • Monitor and advocate for hospice and palliative care on issues in various federal governmental agencies (including CMS, FDA, DEA, OIG, EPA) • Develop materials (e.g., Regulatory Alerts, Regulatory Round-Ups, NewsBriefs items and tip sheets) to provide guidance on specific regulatory and compliance issues • Analyze proposed regulations and prepare NHPCO responses • Partner with other national organizations on issues of mutual concern (CAPC, AAHPM, HPNA, AAHSA, AHCA, ASPA and others) • Update NHPCO Web site with regulatory and compliance resource materials and links • Identify resources for regulations at the state level
