Welcome and Happy New Year! The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) welcomes you to the January 2008 ASR Trade Expo. Exhibiting at this show is a great way to get a jump on the new year! SIMA is proud to enter into another year as a partner with ASR, starting with the ASR/SIMA Board Builders Pavilion at this show—which marks the one-year anniversary of ASR and SIMA’s partnership to bring more focused attention to board builders on the show floor. Letters: SIMA Charitable Efforts of the Surf Industry Continue August 2007 marked the 18th consecutive year the surf industry has joined together to raise money for the ocean environment at Waterman’s Weekend, and this year we raised a record $500,000 for the beneficiaries. Waterman’s was followed by the 4th annual Liquid Nation Ball, which also hit a landmark fund-raising goal this year of $250,000 raised for surf-related humanitarian organizations. Thanks to the support of ASR, the second state-of-the-industry research project commissioned by SIMA, the 2006 SIMA Retail Distribution Study, was released last summer. Currently SIMA is not only setting the stage for a 2008 Retail Distribution Study, but also plans for a participation study, economic impact study and more are in the works for the near future. In addition to market research, with ASR’s support, SIMA plans to host SIMA Business Boot Camp, a series of educational seminars throughout the year.
