LETTERS: BRA On behalf of the Board Retailers Association (BRA) board of directors and members, it is my pleasure to welcome you to ASR. We encourage you to utilize the new Thursday through Saturday format to maximize the time devoted to writing orders, seeing new lines and brands, visiting with friends and, above all, taking the time to stop by the BRA booth and learn about the many faces of our board sports retail association. BRA is organized by, and consists of, more than 500 retailers who like you take pride and pleasure in being part of the board sport community. BRA is focused on three main areas of concentration: retail education, communication and discounts on vendor services and products. Use ASR as an opportunity to see the many faces of BRA firsthand. THE MANY FACES OF THE BOARD RETAILERS ASSOCIATION… BRA is your means of communication with manufacturers, reps and distributors. With current market changes, it is important to the board sport business that retailers have a say in the direction that our industry is headed, thus strengthening the business climate. BRA gives board sport retailers—surfboard, skateboard, snowboard and wakeboard—a cohesive voice on a grassroots level. BRA provides the single largest source for retail education specific to the board sport industry. The association will continue to work with manufacturers and supporting associations over the course of the year to complete the online retail education program. The Action Sports Specialist is geared toward retail employees, while the Action Sports Management Specialist is a continuing education program designed for retail owners and managers.The latter program addresses the often complex issues of hiring, managing and training employees, open-to-buy, points of sale, etc. BRA is your resource for exclusive access to industry trend reports, retail surveys and market analysis. Through independent surveys and partnerships with POS data collectors, financial analysts and other industry experts BRA is able to provide retailers with brand- and product-specific benchmarking data. BRA is also your source for discounted vendor products and services on everything including insurance, credit card processing, shipping, consulting services and legal advice. BRA provides a sense of community that helps promote and foster networking opportunities and thought leadership. BRA will again host our Retail Summit April 30–May 4, 2008, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Retail Summit V will be an opportunity for retailers from across the country to come together with each other and select manufacturers to discuss issues of concern in the current marketplace. Between seminars, panel discussions, roundtables with select manufacturers and distributors, keynotes and, of course, fun in the sun, this is a don’t-miss event for every board sport retailer. BRA is the ally for independent board sport retailers in the action sport industry.
