Each section uses these signature elements to draw customers to the products, while unique features—such as the Hirotoshi Sawada-designed whimsical ceiling ribbons at the escalator—entice customers to discover every level of Printemps. Contrasting elements add visual interest and artistic touches throughout the store. A brushed stainless steel, faceted face on the central POS in the basement-level fashion jewelry department is reminiscent of an uncut jewel. The asymmetrical and angular form is a distinct feature surrounded by white lacquer cases with polished steel accents. The concept for the basement level bag and leather goods area takes inspiration from a home library. The perimeter shelving is lined with an abstract, Far East print wallcovering depicting an owner’s travel experiences, while stacks of travel trunks and chests inspire another featured fixture. These elements surround furniture groupings to depict an urban loft sense of living. Whimsical elements combined with an invisible wall framework provide the backdrop for a signature Printemps experience. The new aesthetic redefines shopping for Parisians and tourists alike; it is a modern renovation project that continues the store’s legacy of innovation and captures the energy of this historic building.
