F
rom SoHo to SoCal, Bloomingdale’s has continued its shopping legacy with the August 2010 opening of Bloomingdale’s Santa Monica Place, its second “small concept” store. This 80,000-sq.-ft. store follows in the footsteps of the brand’s SoHo location in New York, but this time is designed specifically to reflect the
distinct culture and diverse population of Southern California while providing a signature Bloomingdale’s experience. Together, Bloomingdale’s and New York-based architecture and design firm Mancini Duffy created a shopping destination in the new Santa Monica Place that brings the corner between The Third Street Promenade and
Santa Monica Pier alive. “The goal of the ‘small concept’ store is to make the store congruent with the community where the building is,” says Jack Hruska, executive vice president of creative services at Bloomingdale’s.
