room to share her life experiences; they walk into her life.” There’s the boudoir room. Designed as Madame Ning’s dressing room, it’s outfitted with crystal beaded lamps, lush fabrics, a massive circular headboard behind an elegant sofa, vanity table lined with perfume bottles, and a glass closet-like vitrine showcasing two of her antique dresses. And as a twist on everyday items, jewelry boxes hang like sculptures on one wall and the central chandelier is made out of 13 glowing hatboxes hung upside down and filled with various colorful hats. “We imagined she loved to collect them when she traveled around the world,” Leung says, adding that the many antiques and reproductions in the lounge were found all over—in antique stores, through suppliers, on eBay, and even by the purchasing agent while vacationing in London. Next-door is the ski room. Imagining that Madame Ning wintered in the Swiss Alps, the rustic chalet-like room boasts a fake fireplace, an abundance of wood (floors, ceiling, and walls), antique skis, a framed sweater, and furniture covered in leather and faux cowhide. The other, larger travel-themed space dubbed the Africa room is brought to life with a lion’s head and tiger skin wallcovering at the entrance, and an ostrich sculpture made of tree branches, African tent-like ceiling, Moroccan accessories, and a painting of Madame Ning riding a camel inside. And since “She loves dancing,” says Leung, the “bailar” room is decked out with a gramaphone, trophies, a ballroom-inspired circular crystal chandelier, dancing shoes, and as a “modern art piece that’s authentic,” three framed LCD screens that play sepia toned videos of Madame Ning and a partner dancing. This idea of framing moments of her life even continues in the main lounge.
