OK, one thing is sure…it is hot here in Atlanta. But at least I can enjoy the luxury of air conditioning as we gear up for our fall event, HD Boutique in Miami Beach. If you have not had the opportunity to attend this event before, I would encourage you to consider it because it is not your typical tradeshow. The nature of the event is to create an experience where true interaction and relationship-nurturing can occur. We limit the booth sizes and keep the show at two days in order for our guests to be able to visit each and every booth and spend time with old and new contacts. This year we have added some additional excitement with the brand new Boutique & Lifestyle Lodging Association (BLLA) pavilion. Free for all attendees, the pavilion will be a hub of energy and excitement, with live entertainment, complimentary food and beverages, and tabletop exhibits. For attendees interested in discussing the industry at large, BLLA will also present its annual Boutique & Lifestyle Hospitality Awards Luncheon Celebration to discuss the state of hospitality, as well as boutique and lifestyle inﬂuences. Moderated by John Russell, Advaya Hospitality’s CEO, the panelists include Brooke Barrett, co-CEO, Denihan Hospitality Group; Dan Flannery, COO, Morgans Hotel Group; Raul Leal, CEO, Virgin Hotels; and Ingrid Summerﬁeld, president, JDV Hospitality. Following the panel discussion, BLLA will announce its second annual Boutique & Lifestyle Hospitality Award winners for outstanding design and performance. I am also really excited about our keynote speaker this year: Tony Chi, founder of tonychi and associates. As principal of his successful global design company, Chi is responsible for countless bespoke hotel projects, including the Park Hyatt Shanghai and Park Hyatt Washington, DC, and timeless restaurants, including Alain Ducasse’s Spoon in Hong Kong; Spago at the Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch in Colorado; and the Oak Door at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo. He recently completed work on Andaz 5th Avenue in New York; and is at work on the Mandarin Oriental Guangzhou; MOMA Beijing; and the Park Hyatt Moscow.
