In the two front rooms, which function as lounges, Hsu pulled the plaster away to reveal wood lath walls and ceilings, giving the spaces an almost cabin-like feel. At the same time, Hsu retained the original Victorian window casings but replaced the windows themselves with simple plates of glass.
