and mounted on an elliptical-shaped ceiling. And surrounding the entire space are translucent, half mirror glass illuminated columns. The wood blocks continue in all-day patisserie Éclair, where marble floors and walls have an organic, branch-like mottling. “These help to depict the flow and undulation of the lobby,” Massuya says, “while chocolate brown, light brown, and beige were added in to give the space warmth.” Upstairs, the 307 clean-lined guestrooms abound with traditional Chinese elements. The headboard in some rooms, for instance, uses a

native-patterned patchwork fabric, while the floors are patchworked with contrasting layers of walnut and olive. “The bathrooms have modern finishes,” Massuya explains—clear, cast-acrylic sinks, acrylic frost-finished bathtubs, and stone showers which “express the conception of nature,” he continues.
