Once again this annual issue is chockablock with new products and

product designers, from alpaca throws to faux-concrete furniture. Manufacturers
consistently amaze us with the beauty and variety of creative and design-forward
items they offer the marketplace—much to the delight of designers who tell us
they rely on us to bring them the best and brightest of new products. I think we do
our task very well, thanks in large measure to the stewardship of associate editor
Ashleigh VanHouten, whom I have asked to weigh in with her own comments about
this issue:
“For this year’s Products issue (my third! I’m
pretty much a pro now) we focused on custom
work and collaborations. As I learn more about
this industry and the talented minds who keep
it running, I’m more and more impressed with
the depth of customization and innovation that
can be achieved. Never has it been more crucial
to provide bespoke offerings for increasingly
visionary, global, and—dare I say—picky clients,
and the custom solutions provided on page 51
are just a small sampling of what’s possible.
We also had great fun delving into the varying
backgrounds and styles of our designer profiles—
from Brooklyn-chic furniture (Rich Brilliant
Willing, page 61) to stunning Dutch lighting
(Jacco Maris, page 67) to a textile designer who
went from the fashion runway to Barneys and
beyond (Judy Ross, page 63). The world of hospitality products has never been more
exciting or more beautiful.”
And please check page 83, where we offer a save-the-date invitation to our
Platinum Circle gala in November. For the first time ever the event will be held on
November 12th in New York City, where we’ll celebrate 25 years of honoring the best
in the industry for their career achievements. And our roster this year is particularly
choice: Pamela Anderson and Laurie Miller of Anderson Miller; master chef Daniel
Boulud; Margaret McMahon of Wimberly Interiors; and hotelier Ian Schrager.
It will be a glittering, dressy night: cocktails and dinner at the lovely, recently
redesigned Conrad Hotel, and a host of special guests. You won’t want to miss it.
We hope to see you there, and hope you’ll enjoy this issue.
