Needle Knowledge Enables Easier Embroidery Fruit of the Loom, Bowling Green, Ky., recently debuted its Garment Dyed T-Shirt, which features a high yarn count and tight stitch density. The T-shirt (style DA2727) is made of 4.5-ounce, 100% preshrunk cotton jersey with 28/1 fine-gauge yarn, the company’s highest yarn count. The soft hand yields an exceptional printing surface, according to the company. The Garment Dyed TShirt also is label-free for added comfort, performs well with discharge printing, and is available in adult sizes S-2XL in six vintage fashion colors. Fruit of the Loom featured the T-shirt this past March at the Imprinted Sportswear Shows (ISS) in Atlantic City, N.J. The company demonstrated how the shirt’s high stitch density characteris- tics could mesh ideally with screen printing using specialty inks to yield desirable results. Decorators agree. “The tighter weave allowed the high density to sit more on top of the garment, which allowed for one of the best looking high-density prints we have done,” says Paul Leto of Broken Arrow Wear, Des Moines, Iowa. “I was concerned about printing on such a range of colors because I’ve been disappointed in the past trying to achieve consistency,” says Stuart Brent of Vacord Screen Printing, Philadelphia. “However, every color printed consistently, even the dark colors, and I was thrilled with the results.” For more information, visit fruitactivewear.com. — J.L. Stahls’ ID Direct Opens Digital Decorating Center Stahls’ ID Direct, St. Clair Shores, Mich., recently opened a decorating center for heat printing. In addition to ordering CAD-PRINTZ digital transfers and custom logos from the company, dealers now can ship their blank items to the Stahls’ ID Direct Digital Decorating Center for heat application. The logos will be heat applied to the items and then shipped back to the dealer or directly to the end user, according to the company. “The Digital Decorating Center is an ideal way for us to partner with dealers,” says Brett Stahl, Digital Decorating Center general manager. “We make it easy for them to meet their production deadlines while keeping them on the sales floor servicing their customers.” Items that can be sent to the facility include T-shirts, hoodies, mouse pads, coolers, koozies, back packs, leather portfolios and more. Costs are determined by the type of application needed. For example, products that are easy to heat apply — such as T-shirts — qualify for a standard application fee.
