property showcase The Wow Factor A luxe lobby will unite three towers at Starwood’s St. Regis Resorts & Residences, Bal Harbour By Erika Schnitzer, Associate Editor Situated on nine acres on the northern tip of Miami Beach, St. Regis Resorts & Residences, Bal Harbour will, at completion in 2010, be comprised of three 27-story, all-glass towers. A central lobby designed by Toronto-based Yabu Pushelberg is a luxe focal point that unites the three towers. “You sense and experience one project,” says John Manrique, vice president of sales and marketing, St. Regis/Luxury Collection, despite multiple towers, colorful gardens and resort amenities that pull guests and residents in numerous directions. The lobby’s design is “approachable and aspirational with rich textures and fine materials, and an emphasis on integrating art. A selection of artwork will be showcased throughout the areas,” says Manrique, adding that fashion and art are part of the lifestyle of the target market: jetsetters and trendsetters in Miami and Bal Harbour seeking an exclusive second home. “The buyers at St. Regis are very reflective of the market itself, which is refined and removed from the frenetic energy of South Beach but still has that vibrancy,” he says. The international market of the Bal Harbour St. Regis is reflective of the Latin and European Miami audience. Because the lobby entrance is located on the third floor, residents and guests have views of both the Bal Harbour Shops across the street and of the ocean. “One of the design elements that carries from the hotel ceiling throughout the rooms is the faceted ceiling, which started with a floral design and is replicated throughout the [20-ft. vaulted] ceiling of the hotel,” says Manrique. Overall, the project recalls an old-world splendor while maintaining a fresh and light feel. “The patterning of colors is very regional, but the overall style shares the same sophistication as the New York flagship [St. Regis]. It’s about timeless beauty and creating a sense of permanence,” says Glenn Pushelberg, partner, Yabu Pushelberg. “We’ve created a lighter version of the richness to reflect the more up-tempo approach to life here in Florida.” MHN St. Regis Resorts & Residences Bal Harbour No. of Units: 268 residential units, 36 condo/hotel suites, 183 hotel rooms, 24 St. Regis Club units (fractional residences) Unit Size: 1,777 to 4,000 sq. ft.
