Hotels & Resorts Celebrate the Inauguration, With Your Group, from a Front-Row Seat Taking part in the most important election the Beltway has seen in some time, the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue will welcome one lucky group—with a generous budget—during the presidential inauguration, with renovated function space and a once-in-alifetime chance to participate in Washington, DC’s festivities. Following a $2 million renovation of its presidential and vice presidential suites, the JW has created a package for a three-night celebration. Priced at $1 million, the festivities are held on the hotel’s 7,300-sf, 12th-floor terrace, which affords a “premium view” of the inaugural procession, while protecting guests from winter weather in a heated tent. The JW will assist in designing and decorating the tented space to fit the group, whether that means creating a posh lounge, swanky clubhouse, casual sports bar, Polynesian paradise, or something more directly tied to the ceremony. The package also includes the use of two presidential suites, two vice presidential suites, 300 guest rooms, and up to $200,000 in food and beverage for events with up to 450 attendees. The recent upgrades of the suites was part of a larger, $33 million freshening of the hotel’s lobby and 737 guest rooms. H The ‘Art’ of the Meeting Is Put On Display in the Windy City The new 556-room InterContinental Chicago O’Hare offers planners and attendees some unusual art-centered activities that can be combined with events. Home to an art gallery, and with original artwork sprinkled throughout the property, the hotel is offering groups that book meetings of 50 room nights or more by Jan. 15, 2009—and hold those events by Feb. 28—a complimentary live art performance during the group’s luncheons. The hotel also has been offering complimentary champagne tours of its Museo gallery, which features works by the likes of Dali and Kimler and local artists. Original artwork appears in every guest room and the hotel’s 53,000 sf of meeting space. The art theme of the property is helping meeting-goers get the most out of their events, according to David Hall, general manager. “When attendees break from their meetings and experience the artwork throughout our hotel, they say they return to meetings with renewed creativity,” he said.
