Construction Cites Vancouver Opens Convention Center Fairmont Hotel Fairmont Hotels & Resorts on Feb. 5 opened the doors to its Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, a 377-room luxury hotel adjacent to the Vancouver Convention Centre expansion. Besides its attachment to the convention center, the property also houses 15,000 square feet Stream Spa and Health Club, two restaurants and a lobby lounge. The hotel’s pool and pool terrace are scheduled to open in the spring. By Michael B. Baker mbaker@meetingnews.com Downtown Denver’s The Curtis Adopts The Doubletree Flag Pop-culture-themed boutique hotel The Curtis in downtown Denver has joined the Doubletree fold, making it the fifth property for the brand in the Denver metro area. The 336-room hotel, now officially called the Park Plaza Opens In London Park Plaza this month opened its third hotel in the South Bank area of London: the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London, which began a soft opening Feb. 4. The £350 million hotel, at the foot of Westminster Bridge, contains a pillar-free ballroom that can seat up to 1,400 guests theater-style or 1,000 guests in a dinner setting. In addition, the hotel houses 31 meeting rooms that can accommodate events ranging from small board meetings to large-scale receptions. The hotel features more than 1,000 guest rooms, including 54 suites and penthouses. Rooms include workstations with international electrical outlets, 37-inch flat-screen televisions and separate bathtubs and showers. The hotel offers a brasserie-style restaurant, a sushi restaurant and a lounge. Business amenities include a 24-hour business center and two executive lounges. Part of the Carlson Hotels Worldwide family, the hotel still is completing work on its fullservice spa, swimming pool and gym. Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London joins its sister properties in the area: Park Plaza County Hall, which opened in 2008, and Park Doubletree gains Colorado Convention ground Curtis—a Doubletree Hotel, will retain its quirky décor, with each floor representing a different pop theme, as well as its 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including two ballrooms and 15 meeting rooms. The hotel also is within walking distance of the Colorado Convention Center. With the Doubletree brand in place, the hotel now is positioned to attract more meeting traffic through Doubletree parent Hilton’s sales force. “We appreciate that the hotel will be able to retain its unique, playful personality while taking advantage of a leading, global sales and reservations network and that our guests will be able to take advantage of the Hilton HHonors guest rewards program through our new Doubletree and Hilton Worldwide affiliations,” said Walter Isenberg, president and CEO of hotel operator Sage Hospitality. ❍ www.meetingnews.com Fairmont complements convention center of its own meeting and event space. This includes three ballrooms that can accommodate up to 400 people, two board rooms, three multimedia-equipped meeting rooms and an outdoor deck that can host dinner for up to 60 people. The meeting and banquet area also offer wireless Internet connectivity.
