Mid-America Regional The Greater Columbus Convention Center recently introduced a new ballroom, featuring 50,000 square feet of main floor space and a 24,000-squarefoot mezzanine, making it the largest ballroom in Ohio. The result of a $40 million renovation that transformed a former exhibit hall, the ballroom, called the Battelle Grand, hosted its first event, the 25th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Breakfast—the nation’s largest and longest-running event honoring King—in January. “The Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Breakfast reaches two milestones this year,” said Craig Liston, regional general manager for SMG, the company that manages the convention center. “It is not only the silver anniversary of the breakfast, but the first client event to be booked in the newly renovated Battelle Grand.” Battelle Grand features a new stateof-the-art LED lighting system, new floor-to-ceiling windows, and new carpeting, wall treatments and catering amenities. In addition to the new ballroom, the Greater Columbus Convention Center’s $40 million renovation included the addition of new first-floor meeting space, a new lounge and new escalators, elevators and entrances. ❍ By Matt Alderton Columbus, Ohio, Convention Center Debuts New Ballroom The Greater Columbus Convention Center’s Battelle Grand
