Construction Cites Grand Hyatt New York Refurbishes Empire Ballroom The Grand Hyatt New York in March unveiled its renovated Empire Ballroom, following a $12 million facelift for the 18,000-sq.-ft. space. Renovations to the historic ballroom—which has hosted events for dignitaries including John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Bill and Hillary Clinton—include chandeliers decorated with hand-blown glass, a marble foyer and beaded glass drapery in the entrance. The project converted the hotel’s Seasons Restaurant into Seasons Ballroom, an event space with new bay windows and a glass ceiling for natural lighting. The ballroom can seat up to 160 guests, host meetings for up to 200 and is supported by an on-site meetings and catering staff. Other work on the 201-room downtown Boston property included new furnishings, 40inch LCD televisions and bedding in all rooms. The hotel added a new restaurant, North 26 Restaurant and Bar, and renovated the exterior with a new driveway and a copper fountain. Hilton Washington’s new meeting center with laptop connections, wireless Internet access, projection screens and floor-to-ceiling windows with garden views. The space is adjacent to an outdoor courtyard that can accommodate networking gatherings. The overall renovation project, slated for completion in June, also is outfitting the hotel with new lobby carpets and décor, a full-service gourmet coffee outlet near the front desk and a new elevator system. The Hilton Washington, which opened in 1965, has hosted several U.S. presidents and world leaders. It features more than 110,000 square feet of event space. Temple University Reopens Landmark Space For Meetings Temple University’s Baptist Temple, vacant for the past 30 years, this month will reopen as an event space available for corporate meetings, symposia and other events. can accommodate events of up to 1,500 guests and be divided into five meeting units.
