Project Hilton and Marriott Prototypes for Latin America Three of a Kind By Joy Gettis or the past two years, VOA has been developing Latin America and Caribbean prototypes for Fairfield by Marriott, Hampton by Hilton, and Hilton Garden Inn. “We are fully versed in working in Latin America, the Caribbean, and specifically Brazil, having had an office in Sao Paulo for 16 years,” explains Chicago-based associate principal Patricia Rotondo. “For many projects, we bring the key members of the team to the specific location for extended design work sessions. By immersing ourselves in the branded and guest experience, we learn more and are able to understand how to engage the guest and improve operational efficiency.” What they have learned: “The Latin American guest is very friendly, travels in large groups, and is family oriented. The VOA creates a trio of Hilton and Marriott prototypes for Latin America F F&B spaces are larger, and the typical room size is smaller from the U.S market thanks to expensive land.” For the Brazil prototype for Fairfield, and the Latin America and Caribbean concepts for Hampton and Hilton Garden Inn, the design brief was to “tropicalize the brand, while keeping with the true DNA of the brand,” explains Rotondo. For inspiration, she and the team collected images from the region—spanning from nature to famous architecture, and gave each hotel brand its own spirit. Fairfield is “precious Brazilian gems”; Hampton is the “art of collecting”; and Hilton Garden Inn is “welcome to the garden.” Expect clean architectural lines, monochromatic interiors with punches of color (red, green, and blue), an abundant use of wood and stone, and a multitude of textures, from wood slatted Renderings courtesy of VOA 44 www.newh.org http://www.newh.org
