Rhoda's interior SHINES with simple ingredients.

Passersby in Hong Kong's Sai Ying Pun neighborhood can (literally)
see Rhoda is different. The restaurant's oversized bronze and copper
doors slide open to the street, revealing a free-standing bar and open
kitchen. It's both open and intimate-a concept that many people
questioned. "Within the neighborhood, most restaurants are more
conservative, and things take place behind closed doors," says Rhoda's
designer Joyce Wang, principal of London- and Hong Kong-based Joyce Wang
Studio. "This is the first of its kind that doesn't mind being vulnerable."
Paying homage to head chef Nathan Green's grilling techniques, Wang smoked
the walls using shou sugi ban, a traditional Japanese charred cedar wood cladding.
Copper panels were bathed with an acidic solution to increase patination over time.
And chandeliers were made from reclaimed washing machine drums-often used for
backyard barbeques.
"It's about seeing beauty in the most simple ingredients," Wang says.
