Can you tell us a little bit about the process for certification? Any recommendations for firms who might want to explore becoming a B Corp? It's a very rigorous assessment process and not something to undertake lightly. We were lucky to have a business major intern with us for the summer, and the Corp actually told us that we went through certification faster than anyone they'd seen. But it took me working part-time and our intern full-time about two months to do all of the paperwork-most of the summer. We had three review calls during our certification process with the Corp and they went through all of the questions we'd answered-everything from information about our financials to whether we track the energy efficiency of our projects. I'd recommend any firm considering it make sure they can devote a good amount of time and resources to it. There's a lot of documentation and a lot of paperwork required, but ultimately that's good because it sets you up to be more conscious of what you're doing as a company for the future. It's an investment, but it helps you refine your own internal accountability and reporting processes. But despite the work it's been incredibly rewarding-and it really confirmed for us as a design firm, if we're going to talk the talk to our clients then we need to walk the walk for ourselves.
